Nearly 54 million Americans live in what the USDA calls low-access areas, places where fresh groceries are hard to reach and often more expensive when you find them. In Memphis, one in three residents is affected, and volunteers have responded with a school pantry and a mobile grocery store that travels to neighborhoods left behind by traditional supermarkets. It’s a reminder that food access is a local problem with local solutions.
