A routine Saturday morning walk turned into a pet owner’s worst nightmare this weekend in Kenner, Louisiana. Jessica Reynolds was walking her 6-year-old pit bull, Brownie, on a leash near the Laketown pumping station when the dog stopped to drink from the canal. Within seconds, an alligator estimated at 10 feet long grabbed Brownie by the chest and dragged him underwater. Reynolds, who is recovering from a broken ankle, was unable to intervene and could only watch in horror.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries responded to the scene and removed an 11-foot alligator from the area later that day. Sadly, Brownie’s remains washed up along the canal and were cremated on Monday. Warning signs were posted near the pumping station, but as Reynolds told reporters, “he was getting water; next thing I knew, the gator was grabbing him by the chest and dragging him under. It was my worst nightmare ever.”
