Lionel Richie is taking some time off the road after undergoing a common procedure for atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm condition that affects millions of Americans. His upcoming shows with Earth, Wind & Fire on September 26, September 30, and October 2 have been canceled while he recovers.
It has been a tough stretch for the 77-year-old legend. In June he was rushed to the hospital after feeling dizzy on stage in Minnesota, and last month he spent time in the ICU following a performance in St. Louis. A representative says Richie is doing great, and the singer told fans he is doing well and grateful for every message and kind word.
Richie’s situation is a reminder that AFib is common, especially among older adults, and it is worth talking to your doctor if you notice fluttering in your chest, unusual fatigue, or shortness of breath. For now, fans across the Suncoast are sending their best wishes and waiting for the day he is back on stage.
