A 28-year-old Louisiana high school teacher has been arrested on a charge of indecent behavior with juveniles after a student reported that he showed them nude photos of himself during the first week of school. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office opened its investigation on August 25 following reports of inappropriate communication between the teacher, Demetric A. Preston, and an underage student. Detectives seized Preston’s cellphone, gathered statements, and made the arrest. He was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center and placed on administrative leave by the school board, and the investigation remains ongoing.
For families here on the Suncoast, the case raises familiar questions about classroom oversight, how districts respond when allegations surface, and how quickly students are protected while the legal process moves forward. The district removed Preston from the classroom as soon as the investigation began, a step child safety advocates say should always come first.
