An employee opening Walter’s Soul Food Cafe in an Atlanta strip mall Tuesday morning found a man’s body wedged inside the restaurant’s kitchen vent system, according to police. Officers responded just before 9 a.m. The man was unidentified and still inside the vent when they arrived. Atlanta’s homicide unit investigated and reported no signs of foul play, leaving the medical examiner’s office to determine both the cause and manner of death through an autopsy.
What remains unclear is how the man got into the vent at all. Police have not said whether they believe he entered intentionally, whether it was an accident, or whether anyone else was involved. The restaurant owner and the employee who made the discovery have not commented publicly, and the man’s identity is still unknown, meaning a family somewhere may not yet know what happened.
