A request to leave a Nashville McDonald’s ended in a hospital visit, according to Metro Nashville Police. Javaunn Brown, arrested near the Eighth Avenue South restaurant, was reportedly flirting with a cashier and making her uncomfortable. Coworker Ethan Caldwell asked her to step to the back and told Brown the dining room was closing. Then Caldwell followed him to the door to lock up behind him. Brown pulled that door hard and fast, breaking Caldwell’s right arm. He required surgery, and Brown now faces a charge of aggravated assault. Brown told officers he had been harassed by workers “for no reason at all.”
It’s a reminder of something anyone who has worked a register along the Suncoast already knows: closing time can turn tense fast, and workers handle uncomfortable customers far more often than most of us realize. Caldwell was doing what good coworkers do, protecting a teammate and quietly ending a bad situation. What he got for it was an injury, a surgery, and a story no one should have to tell.
