Sarasota Memorial has approved a new outpatient cancer center on Curry Lane, right next to its Venice campus. The facility will offer radiation, infusion and oncology care, and it’s expected to open in about two years. For patients in Venice and North Port, that means a much shorter trip than the current drive up to the main Sarasota campus.
Hospital officials describe the project as an expansion of cancer services rather than a consolidation, meaning nothing is being pulled away from the existing Sarasota location. Kelli Dancer, vice president of the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute, said the new center will improve access and timeliness for cancer patients in the communities it serves.
The announcement comes as Moffitt Cancer Center continues its own expansion across the Suncoast with satellite facilities and partnerships. More providers moving into the region generally means more options and less travel for patients who are already dealing with enough.
