A Punta Gorda man is in custody after the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office says a tip led deputies to video evidence of puppy abuse. Neil R. Puterbaugh, 53, was arrested Sept. 16 and faces felony charges of aggravated animal cruelty and violation of probation.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a tip on Sept. 13 about a video showing Puterbaugh repeatedly hitting his 6-week-old puppy and then disposing of it. When investigators located him at his home on Sept. 16, a search of the property turned up more videos of him abusing the animal, deputies said. The case remains active, and charges can change as it moves through the court system.
