Sarasota Polo Club Gives 11-Year-Old With Cystic Fibrosis a Day With Horses

For 11-year-old Dillon Hollis, most days involve medications and a chest vest treatment to manage cystic fibrosis. Recently, one Saturday looked completely different. The Sarasota Polo Club partnered with the Casey Cares Foundation to bring Dillon out for a day with the horses, where he met a pony named Felicity and learned the basics of horse care with staffer Ashlie Osburg.

His father, Anthony Hollis, described Dillon as full of life, adding that watching his son enjoy new experiences is great for the family. The visit offered a rare break from the daily medical routine that comes with cystic fibrosis care.

The story has an encouraging backdrop, too. New medications have improved Dillon’s lung function, he is caught up to grade level at school, and he still enjoys playing soccer. It’s a reminder that local partnerships can turn an ordinary Saturday into something a family remembers for a long time.
