A late-night fire in Cleveland forced eight people out of their home in the most frightening way possible. Neighbors say six children and two adults jumped from a second-floor window to escape the flames on 82nd Street around 11:35 p.m. Friday. All eight were taken to MetroHealth with minor injuries, and the youngest child was just two years old.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze, which caused an estimated $75,000 in damage. Investigators ruled the cause accidental, and the Red Cross is now assisting the family. What stands out is the timing: fires that start overnight are the most dangerous, because people are asleep and seconds matter. This family got out, and neighbors were part of the reason why.
