A college football community is in mourning after a rollover crash early Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 75 in Sherman, Texas. Dylan Sebock, a 23-year-old player at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, was killed in the crash. He and the driver, teammate De’Taurean Johnson, were both ejected from the vehicle, and Sebock was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the investigation revealed Johnson was intoxicated while driving and that he attempted to flee before being taken into custody. He was treated for his injuries and then arrested for intoxication manslaughter. The university released a statement saying its hearts are with the families, friends, teammates, and everyone affected by the loss. Loved ones have set up a GoFundMe to support Sebock’s family.
For those of us here on the Suncoast, this story lands close to home. We live in a community built around waterfront nights out, snowbird season, and long drives home on dark roads. The choice to hand over the keys or call a ride takes seconds, and it is the difference between a normal Friday and a phone call no family should ever receive. If you are heading out this weekend, make the plan before you leave the driveway.
