President Trump traveled roughly 3,500 miles to Wasilla, Alaska, this week to campaign for Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, who is locked in an exceptionally close race against Democrat Mary Peltola. During the trip, Trump warned that Democrats placed a “fake Sullivan” candidate on the ballot to confuse voters, while praising the incumbent as “great.”

Beyond the ballot confusion claim, Trump blamed the Biden administration for Alaska’s rising cost of living, then pointed to a 1.7% inflation rate over the last three months as evidence that costs are finally coming down. He also defended his willingness to make deals with Vladimir Putin, telling Gray DC’s Jon Decker that deal-making, not name-calling, is what prevents war. Trump closed by urging Alaskans to vote down ranked-choice voting.

For Suncoast listeners, the Alaska race is worth watching closely. Close elections and ballot confusion aren’t just an Alaska problem, and how voters there respond to Trump’s arguments could preview what’s ahead in Florida this November. What do you think: does a “fake Sullivan” claim help or hurt the real senator’s chances?
