The day before the midterms, President Trump chose a Washington landmark over a campaign trail stop. He held an event at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to celebrate its reopening, joked about naming the pool after himself, and repeated claims that the repairs were vandalized, even though the Justice Department dropped charges against the man accused in the case. The project itself had faced algae blooms and a peeling “American-flag blue” liner.
The campaign side of the day looked different. Trump scheduled nine telerallies for Republican candidates, while Vice President JD Vance campaigned in person in New York and Ohio. Democrats went after GOP-favored seats in the final hours, and in Michigan, Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed addressed a surprise twist: Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. El-Sayed’s message to nervous voters was simple, go vote.
For Suncoast voters, the contrast is hard to miss. Polls have shown cost of living at the top of the list for Americans, and the final day of the national conversation centered on a pool. Meanwhile, tomorrow’s ballot includes races that shape affordability, hurricane recovery, and water quality funding from Redington Beach down to Venice. What issue is driving your vote this election?
