Transportation is one of the biggest reasons people stay put when a hurricane heads our way. Not everyone on the Suncoast has a vehicle, and not everyone has someone to call. Ahead of Hurricane Isaias, Uber is covering up to $40 each way for rides to and from state-approved evacuation shelters across Florida, a partnership Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday morning.
To use it, open the Uber app and enter promo code ISAIAS26 in the Wallet section before you request your ride. That timing matters. If you enter the code after the trip, it won’t apply. Each person can use the offer for up to two trips, enough to get to a shelter and back once it’s safe.
If you live in a low-lying area, near the water, or anywhere in an evacuation zone, now is the time to look up your nearest shelter, pack your essentials, and make a plan. Free rides remove one barrier, but the decision to leave early is still yours to make. Have you checked your evacuation zone yet this season?
