Venice residents get a direct say in the future of their local airport this week. Venice Municipal Airport is hosting an open-house Master Plan workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Venice Community Center, 326 Nokomis Ave. S. The come-and-go format lets attendees review existing conditions, future land use, community buffers, projected operations and FAA compliance at their own pace and leave comments before the plan advances.
Public input gathered at the workshop will help shape the proposal before it goes to the Federal Aviation Administration and the Venice City Council for adoption. City officials describe the workshop as one of several opportunities for residents to weigh in, making Wednesday a key date for anyone concerned about noise, growth, or what happens on and around airport property in the coming years.
The city is also giving residents a new face for airport communication. A meet and greet for Sue Beaudet, the airport’s new Community Outreach Manager, is set for Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. in Community Hall at Venice City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave., with light refreshments. If you live near the airport or fly out of it, what would you most want addressed in the Master Plan? Let us know in the comments.
