DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office
Earlier this week, Captain Jose Raya noticed a large Penske truck with a Pennsylvania license plate attached. All of the markings had been removed and there was duct tape concealing the registration. Turns out the plate belonged to a Chevrolet car, not a Penske truck. A traffic stop was conducted and further investigation revealed the truck was not registered at all!

Captain Raya made contact with the driver, Stanley Washington, who was placed under arrest. Washington requested his Coach wallet, which was found to contain over 15 forms of personal identification information such as: credit cards, social security numbers, and other personal documents belonging to other people (consistent with organized fraud). When confronted about this, Washington recanted and said it was not his wallet. Stanley Washington was charged with Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle and 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝘆 Possession of Personal Identification Information (5 or more).

This is an example of why it is important to always report stolen personal information, secure your bank accounts, and de-activate lost or stolen credit/debit cards immediately. Report Fraud within DeSoto County to (863) 993-4700 or https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/.
