“Addressing Food Insecurity: A Community Effort at DCSO”
As we enter the season of giving, I am filled with gratitude and pride for the inspiring work happening right here at the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office. Today, I want to highlight an incredible initiative developed by Lieutenant Jenny Cross and her remarkable daughter, Harley.
Harley, a dedicated leader in the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, recently launched a 24/7 food pantry in our office lobby. This initiative, part of her journey to earn the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award, exemplifies what it means to give back to the community. With a heart for service, Harley identified a critical issue—food insecurity—and took action to provide a solution.
Harley said it best: “The thought of anyone going hungry has always bothered me, and I wanted to think of a way to help as many people as I could with this problem.” Her vision and determination led her to design and hand-build the pantry herself, ensuring it is a durable, weather-protected resource that stands ready to serve those in need.
The pantry is more than a box of essentials; it’s a symbol of hope and a reminder of the power of compassion. Located in the Sheriff’s Office lobby, at 208 E Cypress St. Arcadia, FL 34266, it is accessible 24/7 for donations and for families who need a helping hand.
I encourage everyone to join us in supporting Harley’s mission by donating non-perishable food items. Your generosity will go directly to local families who need it most, especially during this holiday season.
On behalf of the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Harley, Lieutenant Cross, and everyone who contributes to this effort. Together, we are making a difference, one meal at a time.
Thank you for being a part of this initiative and for helping us create a stronger, more caring community.

Be Kind, Be Safe, God Bless, and have a Happy Holiday Season!
