Application Deadlines Extended for Key Citrus Programs Amidst Weather Disruptions

The Citrus Research and Field Trial (CRAFT) Foundation has announced an extension for Cycle 6 applications of its Traditional New Planting Program, now due by Friday, November 15. This program provides a critical opportunity for citrus growers to establish new plantings, aimed at enhancing citrus production and bolstering resilience within the industry. The deadline extension comes as a response to recent inclement weather, which has affected numerous growers across the region, giving them additional time to complete the necessary applications.

The Traditional New Planting Program is a vital component of CRAFT’s mission to support the revitalization of Florida’s citrus sector, which has faced significant challenges due to diseases such as citrus greening and the increasing impacts of extreme weather. The program provides growers with support to plant new citrus trees using innovative approaches that aim to reduce the spread of diseases, increase yields, and improve overall tree health.

In addition, the application period for Round 3 of the Existing Trees Therapies program will close today, November 1, at 5:00 p.m. This program targets established citrus trees, focusing on the application of therapies designed to improve tree health, mitigate disease effects, and sustain productivity in existing groves. For growers with mature trees impacted by disease, the Existing Trees Therapies program is essential, helping them to maintain and enhance the productivity of their current crops without replanting.

Growers interested in participating in either program are encouraged to review the guidelines, eligibility requirements, and application procedures available on the CRAFT website. By participating, growers gain access to cutting-edge research and strategies developed to promote sustainable citrus farming practices in Florida.
