DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office
Over the weekend, Deputy Klug observed a vehicle on Highway 70 with a stolen license plate attached to it. The license plate was determined to be stolen out of Miami, FL. A traffic stop was made by Deputy Klug and the driver, Rigoberto Vazquez, had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle’s registration (not the stolen tag) was expired since June of 2023. Additionally, Vazquez was found to have warrants in both DeSoto County (dangerous drugs) and Miami.

Sergeant Bierman and his partner K9 Lucy responded to conduct a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle and K9 Lucy gave a positive alert. During a search of the vehicle, a Garmin 8616 XSV device was found with a cracked screen and cut wires, confirmed stolen out of Miami. A bag of white powder was also found and tested positive for cocaine.

Vazquez was arrested and, transported to the DeSoto County Jail, facing charges including:
– Possession of a Controlled Substance W/O Prescription (Cocaine)
– Grand Theft ($5,000 or More, But Less Than $10,000)
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
– Petit Theft
– Driving While License Suspended – Criminal Citation
– Expired Tag (More Than 6 Months) – Criminal Citation
