Burglary Alert! Safeguard Your Home

On Sunday, October 15, 2023, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a series of burglaries that took place in the vicinity of SW Cindee Street and SW Fletcher Street during the overnight hours Saturday night. ???????????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????????????????? were targeted, and the losses were substantial, including a firearm, wallets, IDs, debit cards, sunglasses and more.
The suspect, Guillermo Thomas Castro, a convicted felon recently released from prison after serving time for previous burglaries and grand theft, was swiftly identified thanks to vigilant residents who provided surveillance footage to our deputies involved. Our Investigative Division assisted our dedicated deputies to quickly locate Castro, and after an interview, he confessed to his actions.
This incident emphasized the critical importance of securing your homes and vehicles. We can’t stress enough how essential it is to protect yourself and our community by locking up your belongings. Sheriff Potter urges ALL DeSoto County residents to take preventative measures to safeguard your property.

Castro is now behind bars of the DeSoto County Jail facing a total of 18 felony charges:
– Burglary of Unoccupied Conveyance
– Burglary while Armed
– Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling
– Grand Theft of Firearm
– Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon
– Grand Theft Valued between $750 – $5,000
– Petit or Retail Theft – Convicted 2 or more times of any theft
