COALITION FILED SUIT AGAINST CHARLOTTE COUNTY

THE GRASSROOTS COALITION KNOWN AS THE FRIENDS OF CAPE HAZE HAS FILED SUIT AGAINST CHARLOTTE COUNTY AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS TO TRY AND STOP A PROPOSED ZONING CHANGE.  ACCORDING TO THE SUN, THE GROUP AND RESIDENTS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE COUNTY CHANGING THE ZONING TO ALLOW GREATER BUILDING DENSITIES AND TALLER CONDOMINIUMS OR OTHER STRUCTURES TO BE BUILT NEAR THE FISHERY RESTAURANT AT PLACIDA AND GASPARILLA ROADS NEAR THE BOCA GRANDE CAUSEWAY.  THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRIENDS OF CAPE HAZE RICHARD FLINT TOLD THE PAPER THEY FEAR THE PLACIDA SHORE WOULD TURN INTO ANOTHER NAPLES OR MARCO ISLAND WITH LARGE BUILDINGS BLIGHTING THE SHORELINE.  A HEARING BEFORE ADMINISTRATIVE JUDGE DAVID MALONEY WILL TAKE PLACE NEXT TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND AT 9AM IN THE CAREER AND SERVICE CENTER IN THE MURDOCK TOWN CENTER ON TAMIAMI TRAIL IN PORT CHARLOTTE.  THE HEARING WILL BE IN UNIT 9 AND IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
