Arcadia Police Department
Florida
On March 25, 2025, at approximately 2:00 AM, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office received information from Hardee County regarding a red Nissan driven by Christopher Montgomery. Montgomery had fled from the Wauchula Police Department, nearly striking an officer in the process. He then entered DeSoto County at a high rate of speed with no headlights on, continuing to flee from deputies.
Upon entering the city limits of Arcadia, Sgt. Matos and Officer Workman engaged in pursuit. After several minutes of fleeing, Montgomery crashed his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly taken into custody. A search of his vehicle revealed an extended magazine filled with ammunition and a small amount of marijuana. Officers later located a Glock 17 inside a culvert, with ammunition matching the extended magazine.
Montgomery, a convicted felon, has been charged with the following offenses:
Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Resisting Arrest Without Violence
Possession of Marijuana (Less than 20 grams)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
City Marshal Jones issued the following statement:
“Let this be a reminder to anyone who thinks they can come into the City of Arcadia to break the law and put our community at risk—you will be held accountable. I’d like to commend the responding officers and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office for their swift action and teamwork in bringing this situation to a safe resolution.”
