DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office
Press Release
A few weeks ago, Deputy Murphy responded to our local Arcadia Wal-Mart in reference to a couple using counterfeit money to purchase Halloween decorations, candles, and a warmer – for a total of $175.06. Surveillance was obtained and our Criminal Investigative Division (CID) was assigned the case for follow up.
Detective Grace located the vehicle and identified the two suspects, Todd and Brenda Besson of North Port, FL. An interview was conducted with Todd and Brenda at their residence in North Port, where they admitted to knowing about the counterfeit money.
Detective Grace petitioned for and was granted arrest warrants for Todd and Brenda. Due to them living outside of DeSoto County, our partners with North Port Police Department assisted by arresting them, and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office assisted us with evidence collection.
Sheriff Potter commends the teamwork and determination of our detectives and partner agencies. Let this be a reminder: you can run, but you can’t hide. If you bring crime to DeSoto County, we’ll find you.
