COVID-19 VACCINATION TO BEGIN IN DESOTO COUNTY – PRIORITY GROUPS (65+)

The Florida Department of Health in DeSoto County will be offering doses of the Moderna vaccine to seniors age 65 and older beginning Wednesday, January 6, at 9:00 a.m. The County has a limited supply of vaccines, at this point, and it will be on a first-come, first-served basis. DeSoto County residence is not required. For questions, call the Health Department at 863-993-4601.

WHEN: Wednesday, January 6, 2021, starting at 9:00 a.m., while supplies last.  Additional dates and times will be announced as more of the vaccines become available.

WHERE: Turner Agri-Civic Center (2250 NE Roan Street) in Arcadia

DeSoto Memorial Hospital will also be administering vaccines to frontline healthcare workers, frontline first responders, and community members over the age of 65. They will be scheduling appointments, starting Monday, January 4, through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The number to call is 863-491-4369.

The vaccination process is a collaborative effort between the FDOH DeSoto, DeSoto County’s Emergency Management and Public Safety Departments, DeSoto Memorial Hospital, and other community partners.

A drive-thru testing site is open every Monday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., at the Turner Center (2250 NE Road Street) in Arcadia. No prescription or appointment needed. Tests are free and all are welcome. The testing site is a collaborative effort between the County Department of Health, DeSoto Memorial Hospital, and the County’s Public Safety Department.
