Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 35 Florida counties, including Southwest Florida, in anticipation of Hurricane Milton. The National Hurricane Center predicts it will reach Category 3 status before making landfall on the west coast of Florida on Wednesday. DeSantis has instructed emergency management and transportation authorities to work together to assist affected communities.
