DeSoto County’s economic development department, working with the Local Technology Planning Team, has created a brief survey to help determine internet service needs in the County. There is a survey for businesses and one for residents, with a version in English and one in Spanish.
The data collected will be used to identify locations that are unserved or underserved. The State of Florida defines broadband as a service that provides high-speed access to the Internet at a download rate of at least 25 Megabits per second (Mbps) and at least 3 Mbps upload.
The state’s Office of Broadband states, “Broadband allows people more affordable and efficient access to basic amenities such as education, health care, public safety, and government services…”
The survey is the first step to finding the gaps and determining the next steps for attracting better service. All the data is confidential and not used for any solicitation.
