On March 29, 2025, DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to DeSoto Correctional Institution after correctional staff uncovered an employee’s attempt to smuggle illegal narcotics into the facility… including marijuana and cocaine.
Jocealynn Saranne Shannon was swiftly arrested and transported to the DeSoto County Jail, now facing multiple felony charges, including Smuggling Contraband into a Correctional Institution, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Smuggling drugs into a correctional facility doesn’t just break the law, it endangers everyone inside. Great job to our deputies and the correctional staff at DCI for stopping this crime in its tracks!
