If you believe you have been discriminated against while trying to buy or rent a house or apartment, you can file a fair housing complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Fair Housing Law prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or disability. Because there are time limits on when a complaint can be filed with HUD after an alleged violation, you should submit a complaint as soon as possible and provide as much information as possible.
