DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. – South West Florida Crime Stoppers are still searching for the person who killed of a 36-year-old man who was found dead in a DeSoto County creek in 1980.
According to authorities, Merritt Wheeler Sr. was found on October 8, 1980, in Horse Creek near the bridge at County Road 769,
Detectives said it was determined that Wheeler had suffered injuries before being dumped in the water. The case a was determined to be a homicide.
40 years later, South West Florida investigators are still asking for the publics help in solving this case.
If anyone with information to contact the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department or SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS. They are offering a reward of $3,000 if you know who killed Wheeler.
