You may have noticed increased law enforcement action on South Alabama Avenue today. That was because Jonte Deion Currychapman was hiding out after attempting to murder two people (one a young child) in Sarasota County. After committing this terrible act Currychapman decided to try to hide out in DeSoto County.
His attempt to evade capture did not last long. This morning members of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Apprehension Unit, which includes DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Deputies as members, safely took Currychapman into custody. Currychapman now gets to return to Sarasota County to answer for his terrible misdeeds.
Sheriff Potter is proud of our partnership with the U.S. Marshal Service and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Potter stated, “If you do a crime in another community, don’t try to hide out in DeSoto County.”
