DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Convicted Felon On Gun Charges

DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department –
Earlier this month, Fabio Guzman attempted to go gun shopping. He checked out a few different firearms before deciding on an S.A.R. Arms AR-15 platform semi-automatic pistol and an I.O. INC Sporter AK-47 platform semi-automatic pistol. He even completed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) forms and provided his photo ID for the background check, which is required to purchase a firearm!
There’s only one problem…. Fabio is a CONVICTED FELON, meaning he cannot purchase or possess firearms in any capacity, even temporarily.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Special Agent Mercurio and DCSO Detective Gonzalez looked into this and obtained an arrest warrant for Fabio.
Today, they were able to track Fabio down where he was arrested on Agent Mercurio’s warrant and GUESS WHAT…. Fabio had a loaded 9mm handgun next to him in the driver seat!
In addition to Agent Mercurio’s warrant for Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon x2, Fabio was also charged with Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Failure to Register as a Convicted Felon.
We are grateful for our positive working relationship with FDLE and we appreciate their help with removing another criminal from our streets!
