DeSoto County Emergency Management
Hurricane Idalia has passed our area and making landfall in the Big Bend area.
We will experience some rain bands most of the morning, with winds less than 40mph as the bands pass through. We had a tornado warning overnight, however no visibility of a tornado touching down or damage associated with it.
We have no reports of major damage.
We experienced just under 4 inches of water, with very minor localized flooding of some streets.
We currently have 80 residents without power, but efforts are ongoing to restore those outages.
The Special Needs Shelter closed at 7am this morning and had zero clients throughout the evening. The General Population Shelter will be closing later this morning as we experience daylight and the weather improves.
Continue your efforts to be safe as we experience the remaining effects of Hurricane Idalia.
