DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO)
Sunday June 26th 2022,  44 year old Melissa Webster of Tallahassee, FL, brought her infant grandchild, along with 100 grams of cocaine and heroin, into DCI during visitation. Thankfully DCI officers conduct thorough searches of visitors and the contraband was located. DCSO was contacted and Melissa was placed under arrest. DCSO’s K9 Liberty conducted a free air sniff of Melissa’s vehicle in the parking lot and an additional 687.7 grams of heroin and cocaine were located in her vehicle… along with the baby’s car seat and essentials.
The Department of Children and Families responded and provided care and safe placement for the infant.
As for Melissa, she was transported to the DeSoto County Jail where she was charged with Trafficking in Heroin, Trafficking in Cocaine, Introduction of Contraband into a Correctional Facility, Child Abuse/Neglect and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She is currently held without bond.
We are grateful for the effective and consistent partnership between DCSO and DCI. Thanks to this teamwork, almost 800 grams (two pounds) of heroin and cocaine were kept out of our prison system and our community!
Awesome job to everyone involved!!
