On January 6, 2025, Corporal Friend of the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop for a window tint violation. The driver, Eric Manuel Wooten, immediately fled, abandoning his vehicle in a nearby orange grove and attempting to escape on foot.
Additional deputies, with support from the Arcadia Police Department, swiftly established a perimeter and began a coordinated search. K9 Kita expertly tracked through the grove, leading deputies to Wooten’s location. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Wooten was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including fleeing law enforcement, resisting an officer without violence, possession of marijuana under 20 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license. Wooten has since been released by the court on bond.
Sheriff Jim Potter commends the seamless teamwork and dedication displayed by all law enforcement personnel involved in ensuring Wooten was brought to justice.
