A PORT CHARLOTTE MAN WAS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE ROBBERY OF A VENICE CELL PHONE STORE AS HE SAT IN JAIL WEDNESDAY ON AN UNRELATED CHARGED. 22 YEAR OLD DANIEL UPTON WAS PICKED UP BY VENICE POLICE WEDNESDAY ON PETIT THEFT CHARGES WHEN A CORRECTIONS DEPUTY RECOGNIZED THE TATTOO FROM AN INTELLIGENCE BULLETIN IN THE CASE AND NOTIFIED THE SHERIFF’S DETECTIVE WORKING THE CASE. AN EMPLOYEE OF THE METRO PCS STORE ON SOUTH TAMIAMI TRAIL TOLD DEPUTIES THAT UPTON AND ANOTHER MAN HAD VISITED THE STORE SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE LAST FRIDAY’S ROBBERY. DETECTIVES REVIEWED SURVEILLANCE VIDEO AND FOUND UPTON WAS WEARING THE SAME CLOTHES AND NOTICED THE TATTOO ON HIS SHOULDER. UPTON IS NOW CHARGED WITH ROBBERY WITH A DEADLY WEAPON. HE IS BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND IN THE SARASOTA COUNTY JAIL.
