AN ENGLEWOOD MAN WAS CITED AFTER AN ACCIDENT LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT.  THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS 44 YEAR OLD KEVIN MURPHY WAS WESTBOUND ON AVENUE OF THE AMERICAS APPROACHING THE STOP SIGN AT SAN CASA DRIVE JUST BEFORE 10PM.  ONCE STOPPING AT THE “T” INTERSECTION, HE PULLED INTO THE DIRECT PATH OF A MAZDA HEADING SOUTHBOUND ON SAN CASA THAT WAS DRIVEN BY 48 YEAR OLD CHARLES DEVENY OF ENGLEWOOD.  DEVENY WAS AIRLIFTED TO LEE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL’S TRAUMA UNIT IN SERIOUS CONDITION.  TROOPERS SAY MURPHY, WHO HAD MINOR INJURIES, LEFT THE SCENE ON FOOT AND WAS FOUND AT HIS ENGLEWOOD RESIDENCE.  HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND CHARGED WITH LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT WITH INJURY & PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND HE WAS CITED FOR VIOLATION OF THE RIGHT OF WAY AT A STOP SIGN.
