SARASOTA COUNTY DEPUTIES ARE LOOKING FOR AN OLDER MAN WHO ROBBED A DEPARTMENT STORE IN SOUTH SARASOTA LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. DEPUTIES SAY THEY WERE CALLED TO THE MARSHALL’S AT 6561 SOUTH TAMIAMI TRAIL JUST BEFORE 6PM IN REFERENCE TO A SHOPLIFTING THAT TURNED INTO A ROBBERY. A LOSS PREVENTION EMPLOYEE AT THE STORE SAW THE SUSPECT PUT A BOTTLE OF COLOGNE IN HIS POCKET AND LEAVE THE STORE. THE EMPLOYEE CONFRONTED THE MAN AND RETRIEVED THE ITEM. WHEN HE ASKED THE SUSPECT IF HE HAD ANYTHING ELSE THE SUSPECT PULLED OUT A BOX CUTTER TYPE KNIFE AND STABBED AT THE EMPLOYEE. HE WAS NOT HURT. THE SUSPECT THEN FLED IN A WHITE MID-SIZED VEHICLE, POSSIBLY A BUICK. HE IS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MAN BETWEEN 65 AND 70 YEARS OLD; 5’7 170 POUNDS, AND HE WAS WEARING A BLUE LONG SLEEVE SHIRT AND DARK PANTS, AND HE SPOKE WITH AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS POSSIBLY RUSSIAN. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS AT 861-4900, OR CRIME STOPPERS AT 366-TIPS.
