A TEACHER AT THE MANATEE SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS WAS SHOT AND KILLED INSIDE HIS NORTH PORT HOME TUESDAY NIGHT. POLICE SAY THEY WERE CALLED TO 2565 ALBREN STREET AT AROUND 10:15PM WHERE THEY FOUND 61 YEAR OLD KENNETH ELLIS ON THE GROUND WITH AN APPARENT GUNSHOT WOUND TO HIS UPPER TORSO. ELLIS WAS RUSHED TO THE NORTH PORT EMERGENCY ROOM WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. HIS WIFE TOLD POLICE THAT THE DOORBELL RANG BUT THEY DIDN’T SEE ANYONE OUTSIDE. WHEN ELLIS OPENED THE DOOR HE WAS SHOT WITHOUT ANYTHING BEING SAID. SHE TOLD POLICE TWO UNKNOWN SUBJECTS WEARING ALL DARK CLOTHING AND MASKS RAN FROM THE AREA, AND NEIGHBORS REPORTED THAT A DARK COLORED 4 DOOR SEDAN WAS SEEN LEAVING THE AREA. DETECTIVES ARE INVESTIGATING AND ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL NORTH PORT POLICE AT 429-7300. CRIME STOPPERS IS OFFERING A ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR REWARD FOR ANY INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO AN ARREST AND CONVICTION IN THIS CASE.
