On 10/29/24, Sgt. Rios conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Challenger for an equipment violation. Sgt. Rios requested the assistance of Officer Smith, and later DCSO K-9 Corporal Friend. During the course of the traffic stop, the driver, Ernesto Montalvo Ibarra fled at a high rate of speed. Officers canceled the pursuit due to Montalvo’s driving pattern. A short time later, Montalvo crashed into a ditch at the intersection of Highway 70/72, and there was no one located in the vehicle. With the assistance of DCSO, Montalvo later surrendered and exited the wooded area where he was hiding.
Montalvo was taken into custody and charged with Driving While License Suspended, Fleeing to Elude-Wanton Disregard for Public Safety, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Marshal Jones would like to remind everyone that keeping our city safe is the most important task of his department. Also, all arrestees are innocent until proven guilty through the justice system.
