NORTH PORT CITY ATTORNEY ROB ROBINSON AGREED TO CANCEL THE AUTOMATIC RENEWAL OF HIS CONTRACT LATER THIS YEAR AT MONDAY’S CITY COMMISSION MEETING.  SOME ON THE COMMISSION WOULD LIKE TO REVIEW HOW IT OBTAINS LEGAL ADVICE, WHICH COULD INCLUDE HIRING A DIFFERENT LAWYER OR CREATING AN IN-HOUSE LEGAL DEPARTMENT, BUT ROBINSON CONFIDENTLY TOLD THE COMMISSION THEY WILL NOT FIND A BETTER DEAL THEN THE ONE HE CURRENTLY OFFERS.  ROBINSON’S CONTRACT EXPIRES IN AUGUST.  COMMISSIONER LINDA YATES WAS THE CATALYST FOR THE CITY TO EXPLORE OTHER OPTIONS, SAYING THESE ARE DIFFERENT TIMES AND SHE BELIEVES IT IS DUE DILIGENCE.  HOWEVER, COMMISSIONER MIKE TREUBERT BELIEVES THERE’S A HEAD-HUNTING MISSION BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT HAPPY ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT THE FIRM AND ROBINSON HAVE COME BACK WITH.
