PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER NOTICE ISSUED FOR CITY OF PUNTA GORDA UTILITY SERVICE AREA
PUNTA GORDA, FL – January 30, 2025
Due to a drop in water distribution system pressure below 20 psi, the City of Punta Gorda is issuing a precautionary boil water notice, effective immediately, for all residents and businesses in the City’s Utility Service Area, both inside and outside the City limits. This action is being taken in accordance with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) regulations to ensure the safety of the drinking water supply.
The low pressure may allow contaminants to enter the water distribution system. Therefore, as a precaution, all water intended for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be boiled for at least one minute at a rolling boil. Allow the water to cool before using. Alternatively, bottled water may be used.
Steps to Take During a Boil Water Notice:
• Boil Water: All water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Allow the water to cool completely before using.
• Use Bottled Water: As an alternative to boiling, residents may use bottled water for consumption and other purposes.
• Do Not Use Faucet Water for Consumption Without Boiling: Avoid using tap water for drinking, cooking, or other consumption purposes without boiling it first.
• Contact the City with Questions: Residents and businesses with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the City of Punta Gorda at 941-575-3339 or visit the City’s website at www.CityofPuntaGorda.com for updates.
This precautionary boil water notice is expected to remain in effect until further notice. The City will conduct bacteriological sampling to ensure the water is safe to drink. Once testing is complete and acceptable results are received, the boil water notice will be rescinded. Notification will be made to residents and businesses via Alert Punta Gorda, the City’s website, local news media, and social media.
The City of Punta Gorda apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates your cooperation in ensuring the safety of our water supply.
The City of Punta Gorda is committed to providing safe and reliable drinking water to its customers and will continue to monitor the situation closely. Updates will be provided as they become available.
