In recent days the Punta Gorda Police Department Marine Unit conducted nighttime safety compliance surveillance of area waterways.
This included random checks of vessels operating surrounding waterways, checks of the approximately thirty boats moored in various locations in the river, and specialized patrols in canals looking for illegal commercial fishing, speeding vessels, and suspicious activity.
The result of this operation several citations were issues for safety infractions, but no suspicious activity was found and most people were just out enjoying the Christmas lights.
