A medical examiner reported today that Brian Laundrie died by suicide with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
“The cause of death has been determined to be a gunshot to the head,” Dr. Russell S. Vega, Sarasota’s chief medical examiner, stated in a press release at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The investigation included a complete examination of the recovered skeletal remains and consultation with a forensic odonatologist, including dental comparison for identification and skeletal reconstruction, the release states.
Laundries parents were notified shortly before the medical examiner of Sarasota, Florida released his findings.
Laundrie was the person of interest in the disappearance and death of Gabrielle Petito.
