Search Underway for Missing Boater on Peace River
Multiple law enforcement and emergency response agencies are actively searching the Peace River in DeSoto County after a boater was reported missing Sunday evening.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, and DeSoto County Fire Rescue all responded to the scene.
According to FWC officials, an airboat carrying two people experienced mechanical problems while traveling along the river. One person left the vessel to seek help on foot, while the operator remained onboard. The airboat reportedly began to drift, carrying the operator further from the original location.
Crews searched through the night but were unable to locate the missing boater. The search resumed Monday morning with FWC and local agencies continuing their efforts.
