On Sunday, August 20, 2023, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about a stolen vehicle from Lake County. Our law enforcement deputies quickly sprung into action, responding promptly to search for the reported stolen vehicle. The situation escalated when the driver, Zachory Schmidt, chose to lead our deputies on a chase through a property.
Despite his attempts to flee, he Schmidt crashed the stolen vehicle into a ditch, and continued to flee on foot! As the chase continued, additional deputies joined efforts to bring Schmidt to justice. Our dedicated team located Schmidt inside another vehicle where he was detained.
Zachory Schmidt now faces an array of charges including Grand Theft of Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage, Resisting Officer Without Violence, Trespass of a Conveyance and No Valid Driver’s License.
