Tragic Accident Claims Life of Arcadia Woman in DeSoto County Crash

One person has been killed and multiple others have been injured in a five-vehicle crash that occurred in DeSoto County. The incident took place on Wednesday around 11:30 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The chain of events unfolded as follows: a tow truck was heading north on County Road 769, south of County Road 760, while towing a trailer. Simultaneously, an SUV was traveling south on CR-769 toward the tow truck, and another pickup truck was following behind the tow truck in the northbound direction.

A second pickup truck, also towing a trailer, was traveling south on CR-769 behind the SUV. Lastly, a third pickup truck was moving south on CR-769, trailing behind the second pickup truck.

At some point, the trailer of the tow truck became disconnected and veered into the southbound lane, directly colliding with the approaching SUV. Subsequently, all three pickup trucks became involved in the collision, but the exact sequence of these subsequent collisions is still being investigated.

Tragically, the driver of the SUV, identified as a 54-year-old woman from Arcadia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the first pickup truck, a 52-year-old woman from Largo, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Several occupants from the other vehicles were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the crash to determine further details and factors that led to the incident.
