Wauchula Woman Dies In Head On Crash

BOWLING GREEN — Authorities report that a woman from Arcadia was driving the wrong way on U.S. 17 when she collided with another vehicle, killing its driver and seriously injuring its passenger.

The crash occurred at 3:02 a.m. Sunday, just south of Bowling Green, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 29-year-old Arcadia resident was driving a sports utility vehicle southbound in the northbound lane of the highway.

At the same time, a 31-year-old woman from Wauchula was driving an SUV northbound on U.S. 17. The collision happened near Broward Street. The Arcadia woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The Wauchula woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of her passengers, a 43-year-old woman from Lakeland, sustained serious injuries, while another passenger, a 29-year-old man from Bowling Green, had minor injuries. Both were transported to local hospitals.

“The crash remains under investigation,” the news release states.
