A PORT CHARLOTTE WOMAN DIED SATURDAY NIGHT AFTER SHE WAS HIT BY A VAN WHILE TRYING TO CROSS EL JOBEAN ROAD. THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS 67 YEAR OLD GEORGE FERL OF PORT CHARLOTTE WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON STATE ROAD 776 APPROACHING WOODWARD AVENUE AT AROUND 9:20PM WHEN HE STRUCK 56 YEAR OLD DONNA COOK. THE REPORT SAYS COOK WAS NOT AT A POSTED CROSS WALK. SHE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. FERL AND HIS WIFE PAT WERE NOT INJURED. TROOPERS SAY THEY WILL AWAIT TOXICOLOGY REPORTS TO SEE IF ALCOHOL PLAYED A ROLE IN THE ACCIDENT, AND CHARGES ARE PENDING THE COMPLETION OF THEIR INVESTIGATION.
