A NORTH PORT WOMAN WAS KILLED AS SHE WALKED ALONG A ROAD NEAR HER RESIDENCE WEDNESDAY NIGHT. NORTH PORT POLICE SAY 47 YEAR OLD NANCY FLORES WAS WALKING WITH A FRIEND ON HILLSBOROUGH BOULEVARD NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF YORKSHIRE STREET AT AROUND 7PM WHEN SHE WAS STRUCK BY A MINIVAN THAT WAS DRIVEN BY 52 YEAR OLD NORMAN GORDON. GORDON TOLD INVESTIGATORS HE COULD NOT SEE BECAUSE OF THE SUN BEING LOW ON THE HORIZON WHICH BLINDED HIM. FLORES WAS TAKEN TO THE PEACE RIVER REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER IN PORT CHARLOTTE WHERE SHE DIED A SHORT TIME LATER. HER FRIEND WAS NOT INJURED. POLICE SAY THERE ARE NO SIDEWALKS IN THE AREA, AND CHARGES MAY BE PENDING THE COMPLETION OF THEIR INVESTIGATION.
