Women Arrested Attempting To Smuggle Drugs Into Prison

February 19, 2022 was a busy day for DeSoto Correctional Institute (DCI) and DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office!
Around 8:45 a.m., Maria Aranda, from Belle Glade, attempted to smuggle 26.84 grams of heroin into the prison.
Less than an hour later, in an unrelated incident, Shondella Bray, from Fort Lauderdale, attempted to smuggle 65.56 grams of cocaine and numerous pills into the prison.
Both women were caught by Corrections Officer Wiley and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office was contacted. #NotOnOfficerWileysWatch
DCSO Deputy Nunez, Detective Albritton and Detective Friend responded and both women were arrested. #TeamWork
Maria Aranda was charged with violating Florida State Statute (F.S.S) 893.135(1)(c)1 Trafficking in heroin, F.S.S. 944.47(1)(a)4 Smuggle contraband into correctional institution and F.S.S. 893.147(1) Possession of drug paraphernalia.
Shondella Bray was charged with violating F.S.S. 893.135(1)(b)1-Trafficking in cocaine 28 grams or more less than 150 kilograms (65.56 grams), F.S.S. 944.47(1)(a)4 Introduction of contraband into a state correctional institution (cocaine), F.S.S. 944.47(1)(a)4 Introduction of contraband into a state correctional institution (Quetiapine Fumarate pills and data phone cable), F.S.S. 499.03 Possession of new legend drug w/o prescription (Quetiapine Fumarate) and F.S.S. 893.147(1) Possession of drug paraphernalia.
